Malaysia Masters: Kidambi Srikanth reached quarterfinals, HS Pranay out of tournament

Kuala Lumpur. Veteran Indian badminton player Kidambi Srikanth on Thursday defeated Ireland’s Nhat Guyen in the second round match to enter the quarter -finals of Malaysia Masters, but HS Prannoy lost in the game. In the mixed doubles pre-quarterfinals, the pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Cresto defeated France’s Julian Mayo and Li Palearmo 21–17, 18-21, 21-15.

However, Prannoy lost to Japan’s Yushi Tanaka 9-21, 18-21 in the men’s single pre-quarter-final match. In other pre-quarterfinals of the day among Indian players, Ayush Shetty lost to Toma Popov of France 13-21, 17-21, Satish Kumar lost to Karunakaran France to Christo Popov of France 14-21, 16-21. In the final 16 of the women’s doubles, Prerna Alvekar and Mrunmayi Deshpande lost 9-21, 14-21 to the pair of Hasu Yin-Hui and Lin Jhih Yun.

Srikanth won 23-21 21-17 in the 59-minute match against 33rd number Number 33 in the world. Srikanth, whose world rankings have come to 65th position due to a long -standing form, will clash with Toma Popov of France in the last eight phases. Satish Karunakaran also got out. He was defeated by Toma’s brother and doubles partner Christo Popov 14-21, 16-21.

In the doubles event, Tanisha Cresto and Dhruv Kapila entered the quarter-finals of the Mixed event with a win on Li Palearmo and Julian Maio of France 21–17, 18–21, 21-15. Now they will face the Chinese pair of Jiang Jane Bang and Wei or Shin.
