META has officially started showing advertisements with update tab in WhatsApp. This is the first time advertisements are being shown inside the messaging app. META has introduced sponsored content through WhatsApp’s “status” feature. This is a big change in the app, because now this platform will become the source of earnings through advertising. The company has announced this update through the official WhatsApp blog on Monday. It gave information about three new features coming to the update tab: Advertisement in channel members, promoted channels and status. WhatsApp also said that now there are 1.5 billion daily users of messaging app.
According to WhatsApp, to show ads, the platform will take a lot of limped information of the user, such as the city or country, the language. If you connect WhatsApp to the meta account center, then what you see on Facebook and Instagram will affect it.
Your privacy is safe
However, META has emphasized that they are not selling information about users’ phone number to the donors. According to the company, users’ personal messages, calls and group activities will be private as before and they will not be used for ads.
Meta was trying to bring ads on WhatsApp for many years. In the year 2023, WhatsApp Head Vil Cathcart had informed that work is underway on the Ads plan. Now this change has become official.
