Mumbai. Stand-up Cumidian Kunal Kamra has got relief from the Bombay High Court in the case without taking the name of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The court has stayed the arrest of Kamra. The Bombay High Court ordered the Mumbai Police not to be arrested in the FIR case registered against him for their ‘traitor’ comment. Along with this, the court has also received permission from the court to interrogate Kunal Kamra in Chennai. Now Mumbai Police will go to Chennai and record Kamra’s statement with the help of local police.
The bench of Justice Sarang Kotwal and SM Modak has pronounced this order. The bench said that the petitioner will not be arrested in the case registered in Khar. The investigation of the case may continue. The investigating agency Kamra’s statement can be completed in Chennai with the help of local police.
Earlier on April 8, the Bombay High Court had heard his petition demanding the cancellation of the FIR lodged against Kamra. The High Court granted protection to Kunal by 16 April and issued a notice from all the government side and also sought a reply.
Kamra had demanded the cancellation of the FIR lodged against him on the basis of freedom of expression under Articles 19 and 21 of the Indian Constitution and the fundamental right to life.
Let me tell you, three separate cases are registered against Kunal Kamra at Khar police station in Mumbai. In these three cases, complaints have been transferred to Khar police station in Mumbai under Zero FIR from various places in Maharashtra. This FIR was registered from Buldhana, Nashik and Thane districts and now they are being investigated by Khar police station in Mumbai.
According to Mumbai Police, Kamra is alleged to have made objectionable remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In this regard, Kunal Kamra was called for questioning three times, but he did not attend the police station. The Khar police have interrogated many people associated with Habitat Studios and have recorded their statement. Other people associated with the case are being questioned.
