The first match of the series between the two was played at the Oval ground, in which England had to face defeat. This was the first time when England lost a Test match on the domestic soil. This defeat of England was called by the media there. The then newspaper ‘The Sports Times’ wrote, “English cricket died on August 29, 1882. The body will be cremated and the ashes will be taken to Australia.” After this, the England team went to England in 1883. Before going on this tour, the then English captain Evo Bling had said that he is going to withdraw the Ashes. Then the English media called this thing ‘Rigen the Ashes’. On this tour of Australia, England won 2–1 in the 3-match Test series. It is believed that in the third match after winning two Test matches, some women of Melbourne burned the stumps used in the second match and gifted them as a small trophy. The Ashes started from here. Since then it came to be considered as the trophy of the Ashes. However, the real trophy is placed in the MCC Museum of Lord’s. The same duplicate trophy is made. In this way, the Ashes Test series played between England and Australia started.
