A Nepali student was found hanging in her room on Thursday at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. The student has been identified as Prasa Saha (18 years). She was of B.Tech Science. Kiit officials did not comment on the death of the student.

Police Commissioner S Dev Dutta Singh said that information about the death of the student has been informed to the Nepali Embassy in Delhi. Prasad parents have also been informed about this. They will reach Bhubaneswar on Friday. Only then postmortem will be done. Initial investigation seems to be a suicide of the case.

Earlier in February, Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal committed suicide. After this, more than 500 Nepali students protested.

When they knocked the door of room number 111, there was no response from inside. On suspicion, he informed the police. When the police opened the hostel room, the body of the pessus was found hanging from the fan.

The students alleged that the Indian student of nature’s batch was harassing him. It was claimed that the student was the girl’s boyfriend. Students say that despite complaints, the university did not take action against the accused. The students also alleged that the university also tried to suppress the case.

On the complaint of the student’s cousin, the police arrested the accused Indian student. A case of abetment to suicide was registered against him. Apart from this, about 10 others were also arrested. These included three directors of the university.

To investigate the matter, the Government of Odisha constituted the High Level Fact Finding Committee with Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Principal Secretary of Women and Child Development Department and Commissioner-Society of Higher Education Department.

Students accused the college administration of taking us out After the incident, Nepali students studying in the university accused the college administration of suppressing the case. Students had said that on the night of the incident, we went to the university’s international office and sat on a dharna overnight. The next day we were thrown out of the hostel.

One student told that we were demonstrating. People from the university staff came and asked to vacate the hostel. Those who were not packing the goods quickly were killed. We were forced to forcefully vacate the hostel. After filling two buses, we were removed at Cuttack railway station.
