The Railways had a trial run of the Vande Bharat train between Katra and Srinagar on 25 January this year.
The first Vande Bharat Express to connect Kashmir to the rest of the country will run from Katra station on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag it off in Katra.

The Northern Railway will start the Vande Bharat train service on the Katra-Srinagar route from 7 June. Ticket booking can be done on IRCTC website. Six days a week, two trains will run between Katra and Srinagar.
Northern Railway said that the train has two travel classes. The fare of the chair car is Rs 715 and the rent of the executive class is Rs 1320. Right now trains will stop only in Banihal, the decision on other stops will be taken later.

The train trial on Katra-Srinagar route took place on 25 January. The train reached Srinagar at 8 am at 8 am.

The New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express is preparing to start from August or September this year. However, the same train will not go directly from New Delhi to Srinagar. Passengers will have to change the train when reaching Katra from New Delhi.
There will be a security check here. This process can take 2-3 hours. After this, passengers will have to return to platform number one. The second train from here will leave for Srinagar. Passengers going from Srinagar to New Delhi will also have to go through this process.
The journey of 10 hours will be completed in about 3 hours Even after the completion of 76 years of independence, the Kashmir Valley is cut off from other parts of the country in the snowfall season. Due to snowfall, the National Highway-44 closure also stops to go to Kashmir Valley.
Apart from this, it used to take 8 to 10 hours to go from Jammu to Kashmir by road. With the start of the train, this journey will be completed in about three hours.
Two trains will run on the route. The first train will run from Katra at 8:10 am and reach Srinagar at 11:10 am. The same train will return from Srinagar at 2 pm and reach Katra at 5:05 pm. This train (26401/26402) will not run on Tuesday.
At the same time, the second train will leave from Katra at 2:55 pm and reach Srinagar at 6:00 pm. The same train will return from Srinagar at 8 am the next day and reach Katra at 11:05 am. This train (26403/26404) will not run on Wednesday.
It takes 22 years to complete the Chenab Bridge Project The USBRL project started in 1997 to keep the Kashmir Valley connected through the rest of the country through railways throughout the year. It took more than 28 years to complete.
Chenab Bridge is part of this Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project built at a cost of 43 thousand 780 crores. This 272 km long railway line has 36 tunnels.
They have a total of 119 km. The 12.77 km long T-49 tunnel included in it is the longest transport tunnel in the country. There are 943 bridges on this track with a total length of 13 km.
Approval was received in 2003 to build a bridge between Bakkal and Kauri in Reasi district. According to the initial plan, it was to be ready by 2009 but it took 22 years to complete.
Due to challenges related to construction and safety, 2009 passed in taking approval by reviewing the project and design. Then work on it could start in 2010.
The bridge work was completed in August 2022 and the track laying started in February 2023. On June 20, 2024, the trial run of the train was done for the first time between Sangaldan to Reasi station.
India’s first cable bridge is also part of USBRL project Indian Railways has achieved another achievement through this project. The bridge built on the Anji Khad is India’s first cable-set rail bridge. This bridge is built at an altitude of 331 meters above the river floor. A tower is designed to support it 1086 feet high, which is equal to the 77 -storey building.
This bridge is built on the figs, which connects the Reasi district to Katra. Its distance from Chenab Bridge is just 7 km. The length of this bridge is 725.5 meters. Out of this, 472.25 meters part rests on the cables.
To keep the hill slopes stable, 96 cables of different lengths (82 to 295 meters) have been used in the fig bridge.
Tourism and export benefit, arms will reach the army rapidly With the introduction of the train, now tourists from different parts of the country will be able to go to Kashmir for ease and low cost. Also, it takes two-three days to send fruits like apple and cherry from Kashmir to Delhi.
Time increases when the path is closed in a situation like snowfall or mountain sinking. Now this problem will be solved. Fruits like cherries that deteriorate quickly, they will get good prices across the country.
This entire project is also very important for the army. Defense and Strategic Expert Retired Lieutenant General Sanjay Kulkarni says, ‘Our strategic and military capabilities will increase tremendously. Arms, ammunition, ration border will be easily able to reach. Rail connectivity will also enable the army movement in Kashmir.
