Karnataka will host Billy Jean King Cup playoffs in India.

Bengaluru: Karnataka will host the playoffs of the prestigious Billy Jean King Cup in Bengaluru from 14 November, which will try to qualify for the finals, which was included in Group G with Slovenia and Netherlands on Thursday.

The playoffs will include 21 countries which are divided into seven groups of three teams. In this different format, each group will be hosted by a country and the sites were formally announced after the draw in London on Thursday.

The playoffs will end on 16 November. India recently qualified for the playoffs after a spectacular performance in the Asia/Osnia Group in Pune, which was the second time in the history of the tournament.

India qualified for the playoffs with New Zealand with a 2–1 win over Korea. Both New Zealand and India had registered four four wins. India had earlier qualified for the playoffs in April 2021 when the team played in Latvia.

Other groups include Canada, Mexico and Denmark Group A while Poland, New Zealand and Romania are present in Group B. Group C consists of Slovakia, Switzerland and Argentina while Group D has Jechia, Colombia and Croatia and Australia, Portugal and Brazil in Group E. Germany, Belgium and Turki Group F are included.

Honorary Joint Secretary of the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) and director of the tournament, Sunil Yajaman said, “We were very happy when India qualified for the playoffs. The players’ performance was excellent. We are happy that we were included in the host countries for the playoffs.

He said, ‘We feel that the Indian team has a great opportunity to perform their best because all the players are well aware of the circumstances here.’
