Mumbai. His performance in Kamal Haasan’s film ‘Sadma’ will always be remembered. Who can forget the film’s climax, when Sridevi’s character leaves Kamal Haasan’s character after getting her memory back? Sridevi maintained her dominance in the film. Kamal Haasan comes with his brilliant performance and leaves a profound impact. Although Kamal’s performance is often praised at the end of the film, he refuses to take full credit for the success of the film. Sridevi and director Balu also give credit to Mahendra.
Talking to IANS, Kamal Haasan said that the success of the film is also credited to Sridevi and the director of the film Balu Mahendra. Kamal said, “You cannot snatch a film from a filmmaker like Mani Ratnam or Balu Mahendra. So he was trying to give me a strong character, and really raising the hero.”
Kamal Haasan further said, “Audiences experience the anger, pain and love of the hero, which you have to work hard all time to raise. I think the three of us acted in that film. It is a compact thing. And Mr. Balu Mahendra did editing, cinematography, writing, all this. So the crew was very young.”
Kamal Haasan said that Baloo FTII was one of the initial people from Pune to Chennai, who simplified the cinema. What you learn from a fellow student are more than the education of a great guru. Both of us were struggling. He was a little older, so it was like walking with an elder brother.
Earlier, Kamal had said that despite such a big work, he likes to become a student of cinema. He is from a rare breed of actors, who have got the privilege of growing up on cellulide. He made his debut as a child artist at the age of 6 and grew up in front of the audience. He said that in view of the rapid development and expansion of cinema, the safest place is to be a student.
Kamal Haasan said that cinema is moving so fast and so many techniques are coming, the only safest place is to become a student, not to start teaching. What we believe, our thoughts can be crushed, yet we have to believe in those ideas because we are the keepers of these thoughts at this time.
