After the brilliant bowling of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, India took a lead of 96 runs in the second innings on the third day of the first Test match on the strength of KL Rahul’s strong batting. Opener Lokesh Rahul (47, 75 balls, seven fours) and Sai Sudarshan (30) added 66 runs for the second wicket. But England captain Ben Stokes (18/1) broke the partnership by catching Sudarshan at the hands of Jack Caruli shortly before the day’s play was over. When the premature day’s game was finished due to rain, captain Shubman Gill was playing with Rahul by scoring 6 runs.

Earlier, Bumrah, the famous Krishna (128/3) and Mohammad Siraj (122/2) gave India a six -run lead over England on the first innings basis. Harry Brook (99 runs, 112 balls, 11 fours, two sixes) missed a century by one run while Oli Pope scored 106 runs. Bumrah ended England’s innings by bowling Josh Tong (11) but earlier Chris Woakes (38 runs off 55 balls) in the lower order to take the hosts close to India’s score of 471 runs.
