ISSF World Cup: Simranpreet Kaur won silver medal in 25 meter pistol

Lima (Peru): Indian shooter Simranpreet Kaur Brar won her first senior international medal with a silver medal in the women’s 25 meter pistol event while Paris Olympic dual medal winner Manu Bhakar finished fourth in the ISSF World Cup here on Monday.

India’s 20 -year -old Simarpreet hit 33 hits in 10 rapid fire series and she lagged only one shot from Chinese Sun Yaji who won her second consecutive World Cup gold in this event. Yao Kianshun, another Chinese shooter, won a bronze medal with 29 hits.

This is the fourth silver in India’s competition. Apart from this, India has also won two gold and one bronze medals. Isha Singh, who won a silver medal in the last World Cup in Argentina, finished sixth. Only after the first series, Chinese players reached the top while Indian shooters achieved their rhythm from the second series itself.

In the sixth series, both Manu and Simranpreet put five shots each while Isha hit four targets. This was followed by a shoot off between Manu, Isha and Germany’s Doren Venkamp. Isha was first out. After this, Manu beat Doren in the second shoot -off and made it to the top four.

Manu, however, fell out of one issue after the next series. Earlier, Manu, a mixed team pistol world champion Isha and Simranpreet’s trio ensured a place in the final. Manu finished second in qualifying with 585 points while Simranpreet finished fifth with 580 points. Isha scored 575 marks and won the eighth and final qualifying place.
