New Delhi. On Wednesday, Surat launched India’s first solar-sponsored smart bus station. Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has developed it. This electric bus depot has been built in Althan and it has cost Rs 1.60 crore to build it. This high-tech facility has a 100 kw rooftop solar power plant and 224 kWh battery energy storage system (BESS). It is designed in collaboration with the German development agency GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit). This station offers 24 × 7 green charging support, which is through solar energy and reused second-life batteries.

Hi -tech is bus stand
Apart from this, facilities like free Wi-Fi, lighting for buses and charging points are also available at the station, which improves the experience of passengers. According to Prakash Pandya, executive engineer of SMC’s light and energy efficiency cell, solar power plant protects energy during the day, which is then stored in second-life batteries and used to charge electric buses at night. In this way, not only the pressure on the local power grid is reduced, but also promotes the use of renewable energy in public transport.

1 lakh units of electricity in a year
According to estimates, the solar bus depot will create about 1 lakh units of electricity annually, which will save about ₹ 6.65 lakh in energy costs. Even more important is that this is an important step towards achieving net-geiro energy goals in India and promoting permanent transport solutions.
This project is being described as a mixture of advanced technology and environmental responsibility. These initiatives install a standard in the use of reuse and clean energy of batteries. This is not only about the infrastructure, it is a long -term effort to make public transport green, skilled and ready for the future.
