New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that it is a matter of happiness for India to host the prestigious FID World Cup 2025 after more than two decades.

Modi said that chess is gaining popularity among the youth. He expressed confidence that an exciting matches will be seen in this tournament and top players from all over the world will showcase their talent.

He said, ‘It is a matter of happiness for India to host the prestigious FID World Cup 2025 and that too after more than two decades.’

The FIDE Chess World Cup will be held in Goa from 30 October to 27 November. In this competition, three places for next year’s candidate tournament and a prize money of $ 20 lakh will be at stake.

The tournament will take 206 players including world champions D Gukesh, Magnus Carlson, Fabiano Karuana and R Pragyananda.
