The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) says that in 2024, the fifth largest country in the world has increased by 1.6% to $ 86.1 billion (₹ 7.19 lakh crore).

According to the report ‘Trends in World Military Expenditure 2024’ released on Monday, India is spending 9 times more money on its army than Pakistan.

The report also states that the top 5 countries in the world are America, China, Russia, Germany and India. The total military expenditure of these five is $ 1635 billion i.e. ₹ 136.52 lakh crore.

  • China’s military expenditure increased by 7.0% to an estimated 314 billion dollars, showing an increase of three decades in a row.
  • Russia’s military expenditure reached $ 149 billion in 2024. This is 7.1% of Russia’s GDP and 19% of all the Russian government expenditure.
  • Ukraine’s total military expenditure rose 2.9% to $ 64.7 billion, which is 43% of Russia’s expenditure. Along with 34% of GDP, Ukraine had the largest military burden in any country in 2024.
