Kovid-19’s new variant spreading in India Amidst the increase in new cases of Kovid -19 in many states of India, there have been cases of two new variants – NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 in the country. This information has been received from the latest data of the Central Government agency Indian Sars-Cov-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG).
However, WHO has not considered them worrying, but has categorized as a variant kept under surveillance. This variant is visible in the increasing cases of Kovid in other countries of Asia including China. However, spike protein mutations such as A435S, V445H, and T478i of NB.1.8.1 spread faster than other variants. They do not affect the immunity against Kovid.
Kovid’s JN.1 variant is the most common in India. This variant is found in more than half of the samples in testing. This is followed by cases of BA.2 (26 percent) and Omikron Sabalines (20 percent) variants.
Jn.1 variants Weakens immunity JN.1 is a strain of BA2.86 of Omikron. It was first seen in August 2023. In December 2023, WHO declared it ‘variant of interest’. It has about 30 mutations, which weaken immunity.
According to Johns Hopkins University in America, JN.1 spreads more easily than other variants, but it is not very serious. It remains the most common variant in many parts of the world.
Symptoms of JN.1 variants may live from a few days to weeks. If your symptoms persist for a long time, then you may have a long time to live. This is a condition in which some symptoms of Covid-19 persist even after recovering.
