India began with the victory in the Hockey Asia Cup by defeating China. China scored a goal in the first quarter of the match. India was trailing 0–1 after the first quarter was over. For China, Du Shinhao (12th), Chen Bennhai (35th) and Gao Jisheng (42nd) scored goals.
