Early monsoon faded in Andhra Pradesh, 59 percent less rainfall
Compared to the last 6 years, the southwest monsoon came first in Andhra Pradesh this year, but it was not enough. The first nine days of June recorded 59 percent less rainfall. This year, the southwest monsoon reached Andhra Pradesh on 26 May 9 days before its general date of 4 June.
In these days, the state recorded only 10.1 mm average rainfall as compared to a normal average rainfall of 24.4 mm. Apart from four districts- Konasima, Bapatla, Eastern Godavari and Krishna across the state, there was no rain in the first 9 days in the special area of Union Territory Puducherry.
Anakapalli-Vipanagaram received normal rainfall in two districts of Yanam Mandal, Costal area of Andhra Pradesh. Srikakulam received more rainfall. Eluru received 80%, Guntur 95%, Kakinada 66%, NTR 81%, SPSR Nellore 64%and West Godavari districts received 96%less rainfall.
