New Delhi. Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal’s film ‘Chhawa’ proved to be the highest grossing film of 2025. It was directed by Laxman Utekar. The film has not only made a splash at the box office after its release but also worked to awaken the spirit of pride among the audience in Maharashtra. Chhava, based on the life of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, earned a record. Now actor-director Mahesh Manjrekar has reacted on Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhava’.
Recently, in an interview with Mirchi Marathi, Mahesh Manjrekar gave his opinion on the great success of Chhava film. However, he clearly stated that the credit of this victory goes to the historical character and not to the actor who plays the lead role.

Mahesh Manjrekar said in Marathi, ‘Vicky Kaushal is a very good actor. His film Chhava grossed Rs 800 crore. But Vicky Kaushal can never say that people came to see him. If this were the case, people would have reached theaters to see their last five films too. The audience came to see the character of Sambhaji Maharaj. His earlier films could not perform like this.
Maharashtra made the film successful
Manjrekar insisted that Maharashtra actually made the historical success of the film possible. He told, ‘My Maharashtra has saved the Hindi film industry, remember it. Today, the leaf is performing well and 80 percent of its credit goes to Maharashtra. 90 percent of the credit goes to Pune and its surrounding areas. Maharashtra can save the industry. According to the report by the trade portal Caiknilk, Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhava’ crossed the 600 crore mark in India itself, while the film’s total earnings were Rs 807.6 crore.
