Mumbai: Actor Shiv Thackeray has spoken openly on the ongoing Marathi language dispute in Maharashtra. During a conversation with the news agency IANS, Shiva said that we can never force anyone to speak a language. Shiv Thackeray was recently asked by MNS workers to share their views on the incidents of forcing people to speak Marathi.
Thackeray said, ‘I personally feel that you cannot force someone to speak or scold a language. However, you should have a view to learn the language of the place where you live and are earning. If I go abroad, I will have to translate things to the language there with the help of Google. Therefore, there should be an outlook about these things.
Thackeray believes that the way people forced people to speak Marathi are wrong, but the intention is correct. He stressed that people living in Mumbai should come to Marathi. He said that if they go to other states, they try to learn the language there. Thackeray said, ‘If no one speaks your language, it is not right to kill him. I think if I go to a place like Gujarat or Assam, I will try to learn some words in their local language so that the local people would like it.
