IAN Vincent Khelo India Water Games Canoeing: If this is not a love story, then there is no canoeing in Meghalaya, Ian Vincent of Australia has been training quietly in India for 30 years

Report of Anshul Talmale from Srinagar: A foreign player, who adopted India… an Indian wife, who gave direction to dreams… a daughter, who raised the name of the country and Ummam, a small village in Meghalaya, which is gradually becoming the capital of canoeing today. During the Khelo India Water Sports Festival held in Jammu and Kashmir from August 21 to 23, when the boats of the players were running fast on the Dal Lake, I fell on a man sitting on the shore, whose age was 60.

These are the women
A satisfaction on the face, glow in the eyes and the same passion for clapping in your hands, as if you are watching your own children playing. These are Ian Vincent… Sometimes participated in the World Championship for Australia and the European Cup. Today, in the northeastern state of Meghalaya of India, the emerging talents are teaching ripping water from the chappu.

We actually live on the banks of the river with a sharp flowing white water. The name of this place is Whitewater Village. It is on Google, you can Google. We live there, the river flows from the front of our door. Our morning and evening is the names of this river.

How did India come
Seeing the only foreign face during the tournament, the reporter inside me also woke up. While passing by the front, the smile passed, Hi-Hello. It was only for some time that I went to him and started talking. At first he hesitated to speak something, then slowly open and started telling his story…

I had come to visit India for the first time in 1997, then I did not think that I would live here. It has been 30 years now. India gave me everything. I got my life partner here. I made my family. The time has come to return what India has given me.

Life partner became a workload partner

Ian’s wife Sheela hails from Kerala. Today he is not only his life partner but also a workload partner. Meghalaya is also the secretary of the Canoeing Association. Ian told that he started teaching canoing to children 10 years ago in Meghalaya. Due to the limited entries, only four students were able to bring in Khelo India Water Games, but they have about 25 children in the center.

Half Hindustani has become Ian
Ian, who has been in India for almost 30 years, has now become half Indian. ‘Now even my pronunciation is no longer the Australian one. I speak English with Indians… ”As soon as he said this, he started laughing.

Daughter Elizabeth is also increasing the value of the country
Ian Vincent and his wife Sheela are not only training the children of others, they are also learning the tricks of canoeing to their daughter. During the conversation, he introduced her daughter, who came to participate in Khelo India Water Sports Games, named Elizabeth. Elizabeth has recently been representing India in the Asian Canoeing Championships in China. The next National Games are to be held in Meghalai in 2027. Stating this, Ian Vincent had a glow of eyes.
