Hong Kong India’s badminton fans expected good news on Sunday, September 14, but they were disappointed with the defeat of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. India’s Top Men’s doubles pair suffered defeat against China’s Olympic silver medalist Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang in the final of the Hong Kong Open Super 500 Badminton Tournament.
Last month, the world number ninth Indian pair, who won the bronze medal in the World Championship for the second consecutive time, lost despite winning the first game. Chirag and Satwik suffered from 21-19 14-21 17-21 against Chinese world number six in the struggling final which lasted for 61 minutes. After winning the Thailand Open, the Indian pair was playing in the final for the first time in 16 months. The pair’s perfect record was also broken in the Super 500 final with this defeat. Satvik and Chirag had earlier won the title in all four Super 500 finals.
