The Himalayan Apple Growers Society (HAGS) delegation met Union Industries Minister Piyush Goyal today to demand a ban on Turkish apple imports. He expressed concern over rapidly growing apple imports from Türkiye and immediately complete ban on it

Society officials submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister and told that the country’s gardeners are suffering losses due to cheap and subsidized imports. Due to this, the country’s gardeners are unable to withdraw cost price.
The gardeners of the state also stated that Türkiye is a country that provides military aid and defense equipment to Pakistan, which spreads terrorism in India. Import from such a country is not only harmful for the economy of the country, but also worrying from the point of view of national security.

Apple gardeners demand this
HAGS General Secretary Rajesh Dhanta said, apple in the Himalayan states is not just a crop, but the economy of hilly states and the livelihood of millions of farmers. He demanded immediate ban on apple imports from Turkey, increase the limit of minimum import price (MIP) on apple imports from other countries, strict implementation of quality and plant hygiene standards on imported apples. So that any type of disease and virus cannot enter our country through apples.
Himachal’s gardeners and politicians adamant on ban
After Turkey’s military assistance, all horticulture organizations and political parties in Himachal have also demanded a ban on Turkish apple imports. Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has also urged the Modi government to stop apple imports from Türkiye. Apart from Congress MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore in Himachal, other Congress leaders in the state have also demanded to stop the apple imports of Türkiye.
