Kalabhavan Mani, real name Raman Mani, Born in Chalakudi, Kerala, acted in more than 250 films and became the first National Award winner of Malayalam cinema. He died in 2016.
People who rise above their art and talent in the cinema world get a lot of respect and recognition. Kalabhavan Mani was also one such great actor. He became very famous with his ability and started being liked a lot among the people. His real name was Raman Mani and he was born in Chalakudi near Thrissur, Kerala. He was very interested in art since childhood. He was fond of singing and slowly he started mimicry.
It was from here that his art started and he joined the Kalabhavan Group. Due to this group, he got his name “Kalabhavan Mani”. Otherwise, his real name was Kunniseri Vettill Raman Mani. Kalabhavan Group was a stage show group that used to be very popular in the 1990s. Many famous Malayalam actors came out of this group. Mani became the star of this group. He used to mimic, sing and dance. His songs were not filmy. He used to write songs himself, make music and perform on stage.
How could the film industry ignore such a talent person? Movies adopted him with an open heart. His first film was not Malayalam but the Tamil film “Captain Prabhakaran”, in which he worked in a small role. Then also acted in the Malayalam film “Aksharam”. The special thing was that Mani used to run autos in real life and in his first film too he played an auto driver.
Mani used to play all kinds of roles beautifully. Be it comedy or villain’s role, hero or side character, he used to put life in every character. For this reason, soon he became famous in films. She started getting many films and worked with the top stars of Malayalam. He became the first actor of Malayalam cinema to get the National Award for Best Actor.
Apart from Malayalam, he also worked in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. In Tamil, he did films with big actors like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijayakanth, Vijay, Surya, Simbu, Vikram and Madhavan. Some of his famous Tamil films were – Gemini, Puthia Geeta, Anthiran, Papanasam, Well and Kuthu. He acted in more than 250 films, including more than 30 Tamil films. Because of this, they settled in the hearts of people.
People remember him not just an actor but also a noble heart as a human being. Because he did many good things in his city Chalakudi. Every day around 20 people used to come to ask for help from them and Mani used to try to help everyone. Once he gave Rs 10 lakh for the treatment of his assistant’s liver.
One day the star who helped everyone calmed down. On 3 March 2016, Mani met her faint in her farmhouse. He was getting vomiting of blood. He was taken to the hospital but could not be saved. He died on the same day. First people suspected that they were poisoned and killed. But investigation revealed that he died due to alcohol.
Seven years later, the officer investigating said that Mani used to drink 12-13 bottles of beer every day. When his liver got damaged and blood vomiting started happening, he did not stop drinking. The investigating IPS officer Unnirajan said that Mani had called his death as he himself.
The most sad thing was that the day Mani died on 6 March 2016, she also drank 12 bottles of beer. The post -mortem found that methyl alcohol was found in that beer. The CBI also said the same thing in its report in the court. The investigating officer said that despite being so talented and big artists, Mani lost her life due to alcohol addiction.
