Students had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the NEET PG exam 2 shift.
The NEET PG exam will be conducted in the same shift. The Supreme Court gave this order on Friday. The students had filed a petition against the examination in 2 shifts. He said that in 2 shifts, the exam makes a difference in the deficit level of the Quavench paper, which is not a fair evaluation. There is also a difference in the numbers obtained in the examination.
NEET PG exam is to be held on June 15, for which the admit card will be released on June 2. In such a situation, the bench of the Supreme Court has heard the case soon.
Supreme Court said- Normalization for accepting cases
The bench said- It cannot be considered an argument that the NBE (National Board of Examination) did not get adequate centers to conduct exams. 2 Shifts do not have an exam. The digital level of two papers can never be the same. Normalization should be used in an accepted case, not in routine examinations.
This year’s exam is to be held on 15 June. There is still more than 2 weeks left to decide the examination body and choose centers. Despite this, if more time is needed, you can apply.
Court Room Live …
Petitioner’s lawyer – The exam of NEET UG is also in the same shift, while the number of students in it is very high.
NBE – If there is any problem, then why did the students not complain?
Supreme Court Bench (from NBE)- What do you need to take online exams? This is a simple MCQ type exam.
NBE – The format of the paper has been prepared from the consultation of the National Medical Commission. Only a few of the 2.5 lakh students have complained. If you conduct the exam in the same shift, then it may cause problems. The exam will not be done on the fixed schedule.
Petitioner’s lawyer – Centers can be provided to conduct institute examinations like TCS.
NBE – This will only cause loss of candidates. Because then we will not be able to start a session on time. The exam is to be held on 15 July. All preparations have been completed. At this time, if the exam is imposed on the exam, then the entire session will be late.
The delicate level of both sessions of the session has been kept the same. This is followed by normalization. In such a situation, if there is a slight difference in the digital level, then the score will be normalized.
Supreme Court Bench – How can a differentty level be one? These are two different quantity papers. Differential level can never be one.
NBE – We are not doing injustice to any students. We also have limited centers for this exam. Infrastructure, Wi-Fi, good computer, security, etc. are all taken care of. This best solution has been taken out keeping all the troubles in mind.
Supreme Court Bench – There is a large number of students in the undergraduate exam? Why are you examining 2 shifts?
NBE – This is an online exam. In 2024, NEET UG had to cancel due to disturbances. There are limited centers for online exams. All such big exams in which students are more, they are conducted like this.
Petitioner’s lawyer – Students choose their stream from this exam. The stream can change with each number. Streams like radiology, gynecology have a marks from one mark each. Even if a number is reduced, there will be no college of choice.
Supreme Court – The NEET PG exam should be conducted in the same shift. For this, counting of exam centers can be increased. The concerned officials should keep in mind that there is complete transparency in the exam.
On May 22, the court issued instructions for transparency
The Supreme Court heard the petition seeking transparency in the exam on 22 May. In this hearing, all private and deemed medical universities were directed to issue their fees details.

Students went to court against normalization
The NEET PG 2024 Exam Aspirants filed petitions for transparency in the examination in September 2024. Students demanded that the agency conducting the examination NBEMS to release the answer of the examination paper and students. This will help candidates to assess their results properly and prepare better.
The second demand of the students was that the exam should be in the same shift. Due to the examination in two shifts, the result is released after the normalization which is not a fair.
What is normalization after all
Many times when the number of candidates applying for an exam is high, the exam is conducted in several shifts. Sometimes the exam lasts for several days.
In such a situation, a separate set of question paper is given to students in every shift. In such a situation, a student gets difficult and a student gets easy question paper. Here the question arises as to how easy and difficult is fixed.
Think of it like this…
Three sets of question paper- A, B, C were distributed in an exam. In this, the average score of students who solve different sets will be calculated.
Suppose the average score of the set a solve candidates is 70 marks. Set B is score of 75 marks and the average score of the set C solve is 80 marks. In such a situation, the set C will be the easiest and set A will be considered the most difficult. Due to the normalization of easy set candidates, some marks will have to be lost and difficult sets will get extra marks.
Apart from this, students have also opposed conducting exams in 2 shifts. Students say that due to the examination in more than one shift, the differential level of the paper is different. This does not lead to fair evaluation.

Examination for 52,000 seats
Every year about two lakh MBBS graduates give NEET PG for about 52,000 post graduation seats across the country.
For the first time last year, NEET PG was held in two shifts instead of a shift format. On August 11, the first shift was from 9 am to 12:30 pm and the second shift was from 3:30 pm to 7 pm.
