Kankodi Ka Achar: Tribal women of Sirohi district of Rajasthan are now making kakodi pickle, due to which they are getting employment and social respect. This pickle is also beneficial for health.
Women of self-help groups constituted under Rajivika are being trained to prepare new products as per the demand of the market. This initiative of Pindwara subdivision administration has enthusiasm among women. She is not only becoming financially empowered, but is also emerging as an inspiration in her community.
Pindwara Subdivision Officer Mansukh Damor said that Kakode’s pickle is a unique innovation which can also become a big source of employment with traditional taste and health benefits. With this thinking, in collaboration with the dry Forest Research Institute Jodhpur, tribal women were trained in Kakode pickle in Gram Panchayat Gharrat. These women have also been enabled for branding, packaging and access to the market. Due to the high availability of Kakodas these days, women are earning good income by using it. Its demand is also increasing in the market. Now the pickle of Kakode has been included in the traditional products of Sirohi, which efforts are on to pursue.
This is how kakodi pickle is made at home
The women of the self -help groups told that the pickle of Kakode can also be easily prepared at home. For this, fresh Kakoda is brought from the farm or forest. They are washed and cleaned. Then put it in oil and fry it on high flame till it becomes slightly soft. After this, mathidana, fennel, asafetida, mustard, mustard dal and other spices are mixed well in it. When cooled, vinegar is added to it. Then it is filled in airtight jar and kept for two days. After this delicious pickle is ready.

Retired District Officer of Ayurveda Department, Dr. Damodar Prasad Chaturvedi said that the pickle of Kakode not only enhances the taste, but is also very beneficial for the body. Regular intake of it strengthens the digestive system and protects the body from seasonal diseases. It contains nutrients like sodium, potassium, fiber, calcium, protein, folate and carbohydrates. Its intake keeps the liver healthy and also increases the eyesight. Due to excess of fiber, it is also helpful in removing the problem of pickle gas, acidity, indigestion and constipation. Due to the high amount of water in it, it keeps the body hydrated and helps in cleaning the stomach. In this way, the pickle of kakode has become a traditional taste as well as a healthy option.
