This turmeric has now become the first choice of farmers in many states of the country. The biggest reason for this is the high amount of kurkumin element present in it. The analysis performed by the scientists of the university found that the amount of kurkumin in this turmeric ranges from 6 to 8.5 percent, which is far more than normal turmeric. Kurkumin is known for antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer elements, which makes it extremely useful from a medicinal point of view. Due to this feature, the demand for Rajendra Sonia turmeric has spread to Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Chhattisgarh.

This demand for Rajendra Sonia turmeric is not limited to its health benefits, but its agricultural quality and ability to use as seeds has made it a profitable deal for farmers. University Vice Chancellor Dr. P.S. Under the guidance of Pandey, its elements were scientifically classified, which confirmed the specific qualities within it. Dr. Pandey said that traditional cultivation of turmeric is done in Samastipur, but due to the arrival of varieties like Rajendra Sonia, farmers have started getting better prices in the market. In the Kharif season of 2025, government and non-governmental organizations from more than eight states of the country have purchased more than 347 quintals of turmeric from the university. Apart from this, 130 quintal seeds have also been made available to the farmers of Bihar so that they can take advantage of its increasing demand.

The biggest reason for the popularity of Rajendra Sonia turmeric is its medicinal utility, biological quality, and the ability to get more value in the market. University scientist Dr. A.K. According to Mishra, the trend of institutions and private companies towards it is increasing rapidly. Some institutions are directly contacting local farmers and purchasing at a high price, due to which the income of farmers is increasing. The university is now engaged in identifying such elements in other crops and prathas which make them specific and whose demand in the market can increase. In the direction of GI tagging, the university has already worked on products like royal litchi and MRA paddy, which has started getting the price up to two times. Rajendra Sonia turmeric is also part of this effort, which can become a global identity of Bihar in the coming time.
