New Delhi. Gurinderveer Singh has set a new national record in the 100 meter race. Gurinderveer Singh of Punjab set this record in Indian Grand Prix 1 (IGP1). He not only won the gold medal by completing the race in 10.20 seconds, but also changed the history of Indian athletics. Earlier, Gurvinder’s best performance was 10.27 seconds. Nitya Gandhe of Telangana won the women’s 100 meter race. He completed this race in 11.41 seconds.
Prior to 24 -year -old Gurinderveer Singh, this record was named after Manikant Hobalidhar. Manikant completed the 100 meter race in 10.23 seconds in October 2023. Manikant Hobalidhar was also in the 100 meter race of Indian Grand Prix 1 on Friday, but this time he did not run in front of Gurinderveer. This time Manikant finished 10.22 seconds and finished second. In this way, he also improved his previous record for 0.01 seconds but Gurinderveer Singh became faster than him.
In the 100 meter final race, there was a tough fight between Gurinderveer Singh and Manikant Hobalidhar in lane five and six, which ended in favor of the youth of Punjab. Amlan Borgohen finished third with a time of 10.43 seconds. Reliance athletes Rinderveer Singh, Manikant Hobalidhar, Amlan Borgohen and Animesh Kujur have been the major athletes of India in 100 meters for some time. Animesh Kujur did not participate in the Indian Grand Prix.
Gurinderveer Singh comes from a simple background. There was a time when they did not have shoes to run. Whenever he had to go out for a tournament, there is no ticket money. In such a situation, his coaches often help a friend. Gurinderveer Singh, the youngest of three siblings, has been the best athlete from the under-14 category. He also won the gold medal in 100 meters in the Federation Cup in 2024.
