A report presented by the Parliamentary Committee has come in the discussion after the Air India aircraft accident in Ahmedabad. The report, presented in the Rajya Sabha in March, stated that there were disturbances in funding for investigation of aircraft accidents and aviation security.
According to India Today, the report of the Parliamentary Permanent Committee of Tourism, Transport and Culture Ministry said that India is the third largest aviation market in the world, but a fund of only Rs 35 crore has been allocated to investigate security infrastructure and aircraft accidents, which is not enough.
The report of the Parliamentary Permanent Committee of Tourism, Transport and Culture Ministry was presented in the Rajya Sabha in March.
The report questioned the funding received by the aviation agencies.
The report said that the budget that Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) are getting very low and there are flaws in its allocation.
According to the report, for FY 2025-26, where DGCA was given Rs 30 crore, Aaib got only Rs 20 crore and BCAS got only Rs 15 crore.
Committee suggestion- Aaib and BCAS budget should be increased
The committee also said that AAIB and BCAS should be given more budget in view of the rapid increase in the number of airports and passengers in India. The report said, the difference between the major aviation agencies in the budget expenditure of FY 2025-26 is clearly visible.
According to the report, DGCA, with compliance with the aviation rules and monitoring the airlines, has been given about half of the total budget i.e. 30 crore rupees. Regarding this, the committee suggested that this fund allotment should be reviewed in depth.
The report also said that it is necessary to fund where the rules are followed properly. However, it should also be kept in mind that the aviation infrastructure is spreading rapidly. In 2014, 220 airports have been targeted by 74 airports to 147 in 2022 and 220 airports from 2024-25. In such a situation, it is also necessary to increase safety and investigation resources.
