Vaishali Rameshbabu won the Fide Grand Swiss for the second consecutive time, making it to the women’s candidates 2026. Anish Giri was the winner. Three Indian women will be in candidates.

Samarkand. Indian Grandmaster R Vaishali played a draw in a tough match with former world champion China Jhongi Tan in the 11th and final round on Monday. With this brilliant success, Fid Grand won the Grand Swiss title for the second consecutive time and made it to the women’s candidate tournament. Katrina Lagno of Russia won the top position in the table by playing a draw with Ulwia Faliava of Azerbaran. In addition to Vaishali, she became the second player to qualify for the candidates besides Vaishali scoring eight out of 11.
Vaishali also won this tournament in the Isle of Man in 2023. Their victory is an indication that Indian women players will soon make headlines like male counterparts. Vaishali won six arms while he lost in one while the remaining four arms were drawn. She was one point ahead of Lagno. This victory means that both Vaishali and R Pragyananda will play again in the candidates to challenge the world champion.
