New Delhi. Fauja Singh, the world famous athlete and the oldest marathon runner, died in a road accident. 114 -year -old Fauja Singh went on a walk on Monday morning, when a high speed car hit him. After the accident, the car driver escaped from the spot. The seriously injured Fauja Singh was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where he died late in the night.

Jalandhar police started investigation as soon as the accident was received. The police inspected the spot and investigated CCTV footage to search for the absconding driver as well as interviewers. Fauja Singh was born on 1 April 1911 in Beas Pind in Jalandhar, Punjab. Among the four siblings, the youngest troops were physically weak in childhood and could not last till the age of five.

But he made this deficiency his strength with extraordinary will. The 1947 partition of 1947 had a profound impact on the Fauja, who is fond of running since childhood. After the death of his wife in 1992, Fauja went to London to his son. There he brought the passion of his running again to life. On the strength of regular practice and unwavering dedication, he set the world record in 2011 at the age of 100 in 2011 by completing Toronto Marathon in 8 hours, 11 minutes and 6 seconds. He became the world’s first 100 -year -old marathon runner, giving him a global identity.

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has mourned the death of Fauja Singh. He wrote on the social media platform X, “I am extremely saddened by the death of Sardar Fauja Singh, a symbol of great marathon runner and perseverance. At the age of 114, he joined ‘drug -free – Rangla Punjab’ March with unique enthusiasm at the age of 114. His legacy will remain an inspiration for drug -free Punjab.”
