Khushwant Singh, the author of Fauja Singh’s biography ‘The Turband Turnedo’, spoke to the runner’s family members and confirmed his death.
Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria said that he has been “deeply sad” by the news of Fauja Singh’s death. He wrote on social media forum ‘X’:
I am deeply saddened by the death of Sardar Fauja Singh ji, a great marathon runner and symbol of perseverance. At the age of 114, he participated in ‘drug -free, Rangla Punjab’ March with unmatched enthusiasm. Their legacy will continue to inspire Punjab to make drug -free. Om Shanti Om.
Former Punjab State Information Commissioner Khushwant Singh has written the biography of Fauja Singh ‘The Turband Torneado’. Khushwant wrote on ‘X’:
My ‘Turband Torneado’ is no longer there. I am very sad to give the news of the death of the supreme revered Fauja Singh. The unknown vehicle hit him today at around 3:30 pm when he was crossing the road in his village. My dear troops, your soul should be peaceful.
On contact, Khushwant Singh said that he has spoken to Fauja Singh’s family members and he has confirmed the news of his death. After a road accident, Fauja Singh was rushed to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where he died due to seriously injured.
