The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to exempt the accused of dowry murder in front of the police. The accused had argued before the court that he was part of Operation Sindoor. The accused said- I am a Blackcat commando for 20 years. There is posting in National Rifles.

The bench of Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan and Justice Vinod Chandran said, “You were a part of Operation Sindoor, this does not give you freedom to torture at home. You see how fit they are, it is showing that you have strangled your wife, killed her.”

Know what is the matter

The case is of 2002, accused Baljinder Singh was accused of killing his wife. The testimony was given by the deceased’s brother and his wife. The brother told the police that, on 18 July 2002, at 9:00 am, he reached the sister’s in -laws’ house, when he saw that the husband (accused) and father -in -law strangled the daughter -in -law with clothes. During this time, mother-in-law and sister-in-law were holding her hands and feet.

Seeing this accident, the brother made a noise and all the accused fled. But by then the woman had died. The lower court acquitted four co-accused family members, but convicted the husband.

In July 2004, a trial court in Amritsar convicted the petitioner Baljinder Singh under Section 304-B ​​IPC for the death of his wife within two years of marriage.

Accused sentenced to 10 years, for three years in jail The lower court sentenced the accused Baljinder Singh to 10 years. During this time he appealed to the High Court. The case ran in the High Court for about 20 years. After three years in the middle, the accused got permission to come out of jail.

The High Court’s decision came in May this year, the court upheld the sentence. After which the accused moved to the Supreme Court.
