Doping in National Games: Ban on many players including Gagandeep Singh.

New Delhi. Many players including Gagandeep Singh, a gold medalist of flywheel throw in the National Games, have been banned by the National Anti -Doping Agency (NADA) for three years. These players had accepted their crime within 20 days of allegations of doping, due to which their sentence was reduced to three years instead of four years.

Gagandeep, who represented the army, won the gold medal with the best throw of 55.01 meters in the men’s flywheel throw at the Uttarakhand National Games on 12 February. After this, he was found positive in doping investigation. He was temporarily suspended after his sample confirmed ‘testosterone metabolites’. This 30 -year -old player will start the ban period from 19 February 2025.

The maximum restriction period for the first crime of the player is four years. Under Article 10.8 (Result Management Agreement) of NADA rules, if the player accepts his crime quickly, his punishment can be reduced. The National Games medal will be withdrawn from Gagandeen. It is likely that the silver medal of Haryana player Nirbhay Singh will now turn into gold.

Sachin Kumar and Jainu Kumar, two other athletes of the track and field, have also got the benefit of this provision. Under this, the period of their ban has been reduced by one year. Sachin’s three -year ban has started from 10 February, while for Jainu this date is 20 February.
