After the defeat in the assembly elections, now the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided not to contest the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections. Former Chief Minister Atishi and Delhi party president Saurabh Bhardwaj gave this information on Monday. The election will be held on 25 April.
In the party’s press conference, the two leaders said that the BJP had stopped the MCD election earlier. The wards were moved around during delimitation. There was tremendous disturbances and corruption during delimitation. Despite this, the election lost and the AAP government was formed.
Even after this, a lot of spectacle was done by BJP councilors in MCD meetings. Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the BJP is trying to bring our councilors intimidating, threatening, greed. After which we have decided that this time we will not field our candidates in the mayor election.
Bhardwaj said that without any obstacle, the BJP should make its mayor and run the four engine government without any excuse and show the Delhiites by working. With this decision of AAP, the BJP candidate’s uncontested election for Delhi Mayor has now been decided.
Here, after the AAP press conference, the BJP has announced the mayor and deputy mayor candidate. The party has appointed Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh as Mayor and Jai Bhagwan Yadav as Deputy Mayor Candidate. Both will nominate today.

BJP has majority AAP has given BJP a walkover in MCD elections. But if elections are held, the majority is also in favor of BJP. MCD currently has 238 councilors. If you mix the MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, nominated MLAs, then the total strength reaches 262. That is, 132 votes are needed to make your mayor. If the votes of 117 councilors of BJP, seven Lok Sabha members and 11 nominated MLAs are reached, the figure is reaching 135, which is 3 more than the majority.
