Yes, Imtiaz Ali, director of the 2011 Cult film ‘Rockstar’, was initially selected for the lead role. On her personal blog in 2019, Imtiaz recalled her first meeting and explained how she considered Deepika as perfect for the role of Heer. She got off the car on the hotel’s porch and saw me. I immediately came to know that this is the girl I have come to meet. She also immediately came to know that I am the same director with whom she came to meet because she was in her eyes. Keeping his point further, he said, ‘Till then no film of Deepika was released. I came to meet him for ‘Rockstar’. I wanted him a cast in ‘Rockstar’, but the film was made after many years. I worked with him in other films. Many things happened in many places in many years, some of which I can forget, but I will never forget the girl who got off the car on the hotel porch and saw me as she knows. ‘
After all, Nargis Fakhri got the character of Heer Kaul. ‘Rockstar’ became an important film of Ranbir’s career and is considered to be one of his best performance, as far as Deepika and Imtiaz is concerned, he worked together in ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009) and ‘Tamasha’ (2015).
