Sumit Nagal defeated Henry Burnett to win India 3–1 over Switzerland, made it to the first time in Davis Cup qualifiers and registered a historic victory in Europe after 32 years.

Beel A very good news has come out from tennis for the Indian team. India has made it to the Davis Cup qualifiers for the first time. Star player Sumit Nagal defeated Switzerland’s talented Henry Burnet on Saturday to win India 3–1 in the World Group One match. Earlier, N Sriram Balaji and Ritvik Bolkalli had lost to Yakub Paul and Dominic Striker, which raised hopes of the host.

Nagal was supposed to play with Jerome Kim in the fourth match but the Swiss team landed the current junior Australian Open Champion Burnett who lost 1-6, 3-6. Earlier yesterday (Friday) Dakshineswar Suresh and Sumit Nagal defeated Jeromi Kim and Mark Andriya Hunar in singles matches and gave India a 2–0 lead. This is India’s first win over an European team abroad in 32 years. Earlier, Leander Paes and Ramesh Krishnan defeated France in the quarter -finals in 1993. India defeated Denmark on Grasskort in 2022 in Delhi.

The first round of Davis Cup qualifiers will be played in January 2026. Nagal said after the victory, “This is a big win. We have lived in Europe after a long time and we have worked hard for this. The doubles match was difficult because both teams showed a great game. ”

Earlier, Balaji and Bolkipalli had to suffer 7-6, 4-6, 5-7 in the match which lasted two hours and 26 minutes. Balaji and Striker maintained their service without losing a single digit by doing very good service in the beginning. India lost the first issue on the double fault of Bolkipalli. The Indian pair kept pressure on Paul but the Swiss pair made a comeback after the deus point. The Indian pair made three break points in the sixth game on Striker’s service. The third of this was redeemed when Strike’s forehand shot hit the net.
