New Delhi. There have always been allegations of favoritism in Pakistan cricket. Former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria raised how he was tortured due to being a Hindu. Danish had told that Shahid Afridi had asked him to convert several times during his career. The 44 -year -old spinner Kaneria spoke openly about the plight of minorities in Pakistan in a Congress briefing at Washington DC.
Kaneria, who played 61 Tests for Pakistan from 2000 to 2010, is the second Hindu cricketer to play for the national team after Anil Dalpat. Leg spinner said that he did not get respect in Pakistan, so he moved to America. Kaneria told ANI, “We all gathered here and we shared the experiences of our behavior in Pakistan. We have faced discrimination, and today we raised our voice against it.”
“I too have faced a lot of discrimination, and my career was ruined. I did not get the respect and equal value in Pakistan, which I was entitled to. I am in America today. We talked to raise awareness and tell America how much action we have suffered so that action can be taken.”
In early 2023, Kaneria has revealed that Afridi continuously asked him to adopt Islam while former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was the only captain who supported him.

Kaneria had said, “I was doing well in my career and was also playing county cricket. Inzamam-ul-Haq gave me a lot of support and he was the only captain who did this. He was also Shoaib Akhtar. Shahid Afridi and many other Pakistani players had troubled me a lot and did not eat with me. Shahid Afridi was the main person who said this many times, and he did so many times. Inzamam-ul-Haq never used to talk like this, ”
Danish said, “If I had converted my religion as my condition is not like this. I would have become the captain of Pakistan cricket team. I would have been a Sanatani. I love my Sanatan Dharma very much. My religion is everything for me.”
In 2012, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) imposed a life ban on Kaneria after being found guilty of spot-fixing. Kaneria took 261 wickets in the Test, in which he took five wickets with an economy rate of 3.07 15 times.
