Coronavirus in India: The danger of Kovid-19 is not averted from the world. In some country, the new variant of Kovid is wreaking havoc. These days, Kovid’s outbreak is being seen in Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong. The increasing cases of Kovid in Asian countries have increased the concern of the people. Everyone wants to know whether the cases of Kovid may increase rapidly in India once again? In a conversation with NEWS18, Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar, former scientist of India’s top ipidemologist and former ICMR, has said many big things about Kovid, which everyone must know.
According to Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar, Kovid-19 was the first pandemic, but has now become a spatial disease. In many Asian countries including Singapore, there is no new threat to India due to increasing cases of Kovid. There is no need to panic until people are found to be hospitalized or increasing the death rate from new variants. According to the Health Ministry of Singapore, there has been a surge in the recent cases of Kovid-19 due to LF.7 and NB.1.8 variants. These variants are responsible for more than 60% of cases in Singapore. Both these variants are the sublines of Omikron, which originated from the JN.1 variants and JN.1 itself is a sublime of Omikron Ba.2.86.
Former ICMR scientist said that JN.1 and its derivatives such as LF.7 and NB.1.8 have characteristics of immune spends. However, the current data does not know that these variants cause more serious illness than the earlier Omikron sub -rients. Currently, there is condition stable in India regarding Kovid and according to government sources, there are only 257 active cases across the country till May 19, which are all light and these patients do not need to be hospitalized. India is available in Pune-based Omikron-targeted Gemcovac-19, a MRNA-based vaccine developed by Pune-based Genova Biofarmasuticals, the first vaccine of its kind in the country. This can help in avoiding these variants.
Dr. Gangakhedkar says that Kovid-19 will now have to be accepted as a spatial disease. He advised the elderly and people with weak immunity to follow the Kovid protocols. It is necessary to maintain hands hygiene, wear masks and avoid crowded places. If there is a sudden increase in Covid cases in India, then India can increase the production of this vaccine. However, there is currently no new or worrying situation. The world is becoming a witness to the conversion evolution, where the virus develops various variants under the pressure of the drugs and body’s immune system.
According to experts, it is an RNA virus, which is smart and is capable of developing its new variant. The virus repeatedly appears in new forms. Omikron-lynage variants are spreading in other countries too, but until the death rate increases due to the virus, the increase of cases will not make any difference to other countries. There is no need for booster dose of vaccine in India right now. The booster dose is not recommended until there is no danger from the existing variants of the virus. Genome sequencing is also not yet needed, as it is an expensive process.
Dr. Gangakhedkar emphasized that India has faced Omikron-Lynez variants earlier and it has been observed that these variants do not increase the risk of mortality and serious illness very fast. Therefore, until a new and serious danger is revealed, there is no need for panic or additional measures. His advice is to maintain vigilance and follow the covid protocols. India’s stable position and available vaccine capacity ensures that the country is ready to deal with any possible growth.
