The ED questioned Rahul Gandhi on 13 June 2022 in the National Herald’s Money Laundering case.
The Enforcement Directorate ED filed the first charge sheet on Tuesday in the Money Laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper of Congress and Associated Journals Limited (AJL). This includes the names of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey.
In protest, the party will protest against the ED offices across the country on Wednesday. This information was given by Congress General Secretary organization KC Venugopal. He said- PM Modi and Home Minister Shah are doing threatening work.
The case will be heard on 25 April at Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi. The court has also sought a case diary of the case from ED. In 2012, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy complained about the case against Sonia, Rahul and people associated with their allies.
Action was taken to seize the attachment properties during the investigation on 12 April 2025. ED had issued a notice to capture immovable properties worth Rs 661 crore in Delhi, Lucknow and Mumbai.
Earlier, on Tuesday, MP Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra reached the office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Where he was questioned in the Shikohpur land scam in Gurugram.

The picture is on April 14, when Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi arrived in Parliament to pay tribute to Dr. BR Ambedkar in New Delhi.
Congress said- this politics of revenge, BJP said- will bear the brunt
- The Congress called it a politics of revenge. Jairam Ramesh wrote, ‘Seizing the property of National Herald is a state -sponsored offense wearing a mask of rule of law. Filing a charge sheet against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and some others is nothing but the politics and threat of revenge from the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. However, the Congress and its leadership will not remain silent. Satyamev Jayate.’
- However, BJP has said that those who were involved in corruption and public property loot will now have to bear the brunt of it. National spokesperson Shahzad Poonwala said-ED does not mean robbery and dynasty. They grab public money, property and play Victim Card when action is taken. He also made public property his property in the National Herald case.

The ED had also given notice to Jindal South West Projects Limited on the 7th, 8th and 9th floors of Herald House in Bandra, Mumbai to transfer the rent/lease amount in favor of the Director of the Enforcement Directorate every month.
What happened in court on Tuesday
Special Judge (PC Act) Vishal Gogane of Rouse Avenue Court said- ED has filed a new complaint for money laundering under Section 44 and 45 of PMLA 2002. It is designed under Section 70 with Section 3. It is punishable under Section 4 of PMLA, 2002.
However, the hearing of the case is going on with the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in the Rouse Avenue Court. But Justice Gogane said that hearing should be held in the same court under Section 44 (1) (c) of PMLA who has taken cognizance of the money laundering case under Section 3 of PMLA. Both crimes should be decided in the same jurisdiction.
Action was taken to seize property before the charge sheet
Notices were pasted on the buildings of AJL at Herald House (5A, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg), Mumbai in Mumbai, Bandra (East) in Mumbai and Visheshwar Nath Road in Lucknow. Apart from these immovable properties worth 661 crores, AJL’s 90.2 crore rupees shares were attached by ED in November 2023 to secure the income of crime and prevent the accused from destroying it.
Sonia-Rahul was questioned for hours
In June 2022, Rahul Gandhi was questioned 50 hours in 5 days in the National Herald case. Then on 21 July 2022, in the National Herald case, Sonia Gandhi had 12 hours of questions in 3 days. During this time more than 100 questions were raised to him.
What is the National Herald case?
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy filed a petition in Delhi’s Patiala House Court in 2012 and accused Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Congress of Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandez, Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey of grabbing the ongoing National Herald newspaper through cheating and money manipulation.
According to the allegation, the Congress leaders created the Young Indian Limited Organization to capture the properties of the National Herald and through it illegally acquired the Associated Journal Limited (AJL) publishing the National Herald.
Swami alleged that this was done to capture the Rs 2000 crore building of Herald House on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in Delhi.
Swamy had demanded a criminal trial against other senior leaders of the Congress, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, for purchasing a company worth Rs 2000 crore for only Rs 50 lakh.
June 2014, the court issued summons against Sonia, Rahul and other accused. In August 2014, the ED registered a case of money laundering taking action in this case. In December 2015, the Patiala court of Delhi granted bail to all the accused including Sonia, Rahul.
