Gaurav Gogoi is an MP from Jorhat seat in Assam.
The Congress has appointed party MP Gaurav Gogoi as the state president of Assam. Apart from him, three working president Zakir Hussain Sikdar, Rosalina Tirkey, Pradeep Sarkar have also been appointed.
On Monday afternoon, the Congress gave this information through X Post. Gaurav Gogoi Bhupen will take place to Kumar Bora. Assam has assembly elections next year. The state currently has a BJP government. Himanta Biswa Sarma is the Chief Minister.
Gaurav Gogoi is an MP from Jorhat seat in Assam. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Gaurav Gogoi defeated BJP’s Tapan Kumar Gogoi by 1 lakh 44 thousand votes. Gaurav got more than 7 lakh 51 thousand votes. Gaurav is also a Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha.
Assembly elections in the state next year
The next assembly elections in Assam are to be held in 2026. The tenure of the present government is till April 2026. Prior to the assembly elections, panchayat elections were held in the state this year. In this, BJP won bumper.
BJP has won 219 out of 397 Zilla Parishad seat and 901 out of 2192 zonal panchayat constituencies. The Congress won only 271 seats. The rest of the seats were given to other parties.
Gaurav Gogoi is the son of former Assam CM
Gaurav Gogoi is the son of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Gaurav made his political debut in Assam’s Kaliyabor Lok Sabha constituency on a Congress ticket in 2014. In this election, he defeated Mrinal Kumar Saikia of BJP by more than 93 thousand votes.
In 2020, Gaurav was made the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He is currently the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Gaurav contested from Jorhat seat after the Kaliyabor Lok Sabha seat ended in 2024. He won the election.
