Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships: India won 13 medals, on the last day Mehak won silver and Lovepreet won bronze

Ahmedabad. India’s Mehak Sharma won a silver medal in more than 86 kg of women on the last day of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship. Whereas Lovepreet Singh won bronze medal in more than 110 kg of men. Mehak took a total of 253 kg (110 kg in snatch and 143 kg in clean and jerk) and finished second in the sports complex. India won a total of 13 medals in the senior category. It has three gold, seven silver and three bronze medals.

Samoa’s Euniyara Sipaya won the gold medal by lifting 261 kg (111 kg in snatch and 150 kg in clean and jerk), while Commonwealth Games medalist Nigeria’s Mary Taivo Osizo won a total of 231 kg (103 kg in snatch and 128 kg) in Jark. In the category of men’s more than 110 kg, Lovepreet won a bronze medal by lifting a total of 380 kg (175 kg in snatch and 205 kg in clean and jerk). He lagged behind New Zealand’s David Litty (397 kg; 220 kg in snatch and 220 kg in jerk).

Sanele Mao of Commonwealth Games gold medalist Samoa won the gold medal by lifting a total of 401 kg (181 kg in snatch and 220 kg in clean and jerk). In the category of more than 94 kg of young men, Tushar Chaudhary of India took the first place by lifting two total 285 kg (125 kg and 160 kg). There were only two players in this event. Nejitha Nathsahan of Sri Lanka lifted 197 kg (97 kg and 100 kg).

Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal in the women’s 48 kg category on the first day of the tournament and qualified for the Commonwealth Games to be held next year. Rishikant Singh (60 kg), N. Ajit (71 kg) and V Ajay Babu (79 kg) also confirmed their place for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
