Who Alert on Chikungunya Cases: WHO has issued an alert regarding Chikungunya virus. Like 2005, Chikungunya cases are growing worldwide once again. So far no vaccine of this virus has been made.

Highlights
- Chikungunya virus is again spreading rapidly.
- 560 crore people are in danger of Chikungunya.
- Prevention is necessary to prevent chikungunya.
Health experts are more concerned about the rising outbreak of chikungunya virus in Europe, as the virus spread to tropical countries. However, due to climate change and global travel, this virus is now spreading in Europe. About 800 cases of Chikungunya have been reported in France since May 1, including 12 local infections. In some cases people are getting infected without traveling through mosquitoes. A case has also been registered in Italy recently. Chikungunya is mainly spread through Aedes mosquitoes, which bite during the day. These mosquitoes also spread dengue and zika virus.
According to experts, most people recover when infected with chikungunya, but even after infection, joint pain can remain for several weeks or months. This virus can cause serious problems in the elderly and already sick people. WHO has warned that until the vaccine or treatment of this disease comes, prevention is an effective solution. To avoid chikungunya, it is necessary to get anti-mosquito products, wearing full-sleeved clothes, mosquito nets and cleaning the surrounding water nearby. WHO has appealed to governments and health agencies around the world to intensify monitoring, public awareness and mosquito control programs, so that there is no global crisis again like the 2000s.
