Gyansesekaran, convicted of high -profile sexual abuse case at Anna University in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has been sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday. Women’s Court Judge M Rajalakshmi said that the convict will have to stay in jail at least 30 years without any exemption. The convict has also been fined 90 thousand rupees.
Gyansekaran was convicted on 28 May. All 11 allegations including sexual harassment, rape, intimidation and kidnapping against him were proved to be true. At least 29 witnesses testified in the case and the police had filed a 100 -page charge sheet.
The case is of December 2024. Gyansesekaran, who sold biryani outside Anna University, raped a 19 -year -old engineering student by entering the university campus at 8 pm on 23 December. The victim was with his young man friend. Gyansekaran exploited the girl after beating the friend. Then also made a video of the incident to blackmail her.
There was a lot of controversy in the entire Tamil Nadu after this case. The FIR of the case was leaked online, which could reveal the identity of the victim. In protest against the incident, the then state president of BJP, Annamalai, rained himself. He had alleged that Gyansesekaran is the leader of DMK.
