Highlights

  • BSNL has made major changes in the prepaid plan of Rs 197.
  • Earlier, 2GB of data was available in the plan daily.
  • Now only 4GB of data will be available till the entire validity.
Government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has shocked its customers. The company has made a big change in its 197 prepaid plan. Earlier in this plan, customers used to get 70 days validity, along with unlimited voice calling for 15 days. Apart from this, 2GB data and 100 SMS facilities were also provided every day. But now the company has reduced these benefits to a great extent. That is, a total of 140 GB data was given.

According to the BSNL website, this plan of 197 rupees will now come with only 54 days validity. Under this, customers will get a total of 300 minutes of voice calling, only 4GB data and 100 SMS. Even after the data limit is over, internet will continue to be facilitated, but the thing to note is that after this its speed will remain limited to only 40kbps.

Earlier, this plan featured unlimited calling, daily 2GB data and Zing Music for 15 days, while the total validity was 70 days. Now these facilities have been completely removed and validity has also been reduced by 16 days.

This decision of BSNL has come at a time when the company is constantly focusing on strengthening its infrastructure and expansion of 4G network. In the fourth quarter of Financial Year 2024-25, BSNL recorded a profit of 280 crores, compared to a loss of 849 crores in the same period last year. The company has spent 15,324 crore infrastructure and 10,698 crore spectrum in this quarter.

This step for the company can be part of the focus on increasing its revenue and the focus on 4G/fiber network rollouts. However, due to the reduced benefits of the plan, many customers can shift to other networks.
