Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the road and statue in honor of Bodo leader Upendra Nath Brahma in Kailash Colony, New Delhi on Thursday.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to change the name of a part of Lala Lajpat Rai Marg in South Delhi to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg.
Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, known as Father of Bodo People’s, was a great leader and social reformer who made several attempts for the rights, identity and upliftment of the Bodo community.
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himant Biswa Sharma and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will also be present in the program. Also, Bodoland Regional Council Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Vishwajit Daari, Bodoland welfare minister Urkhao Gwara Gwara Brahma, ABSU President Dipen Boro etc. will also be present.
Where is Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg Kailash Colony is an 835 meter-50 feet wide road located near the metro station, which passes through the Bodoland guest house. This road will now be called Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg.
In addition, a statue of Bodofa will be unveiled on the Kailash Colony Gol Pahar. The ceremony will be organized by the Assam government on the 35th death anniversary of the Bodo leader.
Bodo Students Union President said- This is a matter of honor Addressing a press conference, All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) President Dipen Boro said, “Bodofa Upendranath Brahma devoted his life to the creation of an inclusive society, where people could live with respect and secure their right place.
His views will continue to guide generations towards peaceful change and collective progress. Naming a road in Delhi and the installation of his statue is a proud moment for all of us. This is a permanent tribute to his work and ideals.
Bodo Union thanked PM Modi Dipen Boro further said that, heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sharma. The memorandum was submitted by the All Bodo Students Union on 6 December 2024 at Parliament House.
After this, in the open session of the 57th Annual Conference of All Bodo Students Union held on March 16, 2025 in Dotma, Kokrajhar, it was announced to be named Upendra Nath Brahma Marg and the statue.
