According to a report by Storyboard18, MIB found that these platforms were showing objectionable advertisements and pornographic materials, violating many Indian laws. The Ministry issued an official notification directing ISPS to ban the access to these apps and websites in Indian geography.
Media also under investigation
The government has also emphasized on Section 79 (3) (b) of the Information Technology Act, which says that if the platform and internet service providers (ISPS) are informed to remove illegal content or disable its reach and they fail to do so, they will lose their safe harbor secureness.
This step shows the government’s ongoing efforts, which claim that digital platforms should be in line with Indian laws and do not promote any material that is porn or harmful, especially for minors and weak audiences who already have access to the platform.
