BCCI to take Major Decisions for Selection Committee: Ajit Agarkar’s contract can increase BCCI while a selector is reported to have Tata Buy

New Delhi. BCCI has taken major decisions regarding the Indian Men’s Selection Committee in which Chairman Ajit Agarkar has been extended to the contract by June 2026. The former Indian fast bowler was offered to be extended before the start of IPL 2025, which he accepted. Meanwhile, there is also news that a selector can be excluded from the current committee.

Agarkar was appointed the head of the selection committee in 2023 and during his tenure, the Indian men’s team won the 2024 ICC Men T20 World Cup and ended the drought of its ICC Trophy. Earlier this year, he also won the ICC Champions Trophy and also reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Apart from this, he made a continuous selection of the Test team. Three great cricketers retired in the last 9 months, including Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. In his absence, India draws a five -match series in England under the captaincy of Shubman Gill.

A BCCI official told The Indian Express, “During their tenure, the Indian team won the ICC T20 World Cup and also captured the Champions Trophy. BCCI has extended their contract till June 2026. They accepted the proposal a few months ago.”

The report states that BCCI is quite happy with the current selection committee, including Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra and S Sharath. However, the board is looking for a new face and can make a change during the annual general meeting to be held in September. Sharath, who was promoted in the Senior Men’s Committee from the Junior Selection Panel in January 2023. A new member can be replaced by them.

However, it is not certain whether the contract between Das and Banerjee will be increased. On the other hand, Ratra will complete a year next month, which was appointed to the committee in September 2024.
