The reports even came that Shreyas Iyer, kept out of the Asia Cup, can be made the captain of the ODI team in his place. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Devjit Saikia, has reacted to the rumors of Shreyas Iyer becoming the next ODI captain.
On Thursday, several reports claimed that Shreyas Iyer who was excluded from the Asia Cup 2025 team. After Rohit Sharma, he is at the forefront of India’s next ODI captain. Sources told NDTV that Rohit, who is at the last stop of his career, is keen to free him from the burden of BCCI captaincy.
Shreyas Iyer has not been selected in the Indian team for the Asia Cup.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Saikia dismissed all the rumors and said that BCCI Management has not discussed the matter. He said, “This is new news for me. There has been no such discussion.”
Iyer has been in discussion ever since he was ignored by the selectors for the Asia Cup next month. India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar spoke about Shreyas’s absence during the team’s announcement. Told reporters, “If we talk about Shreyas, it is neither their fault nor our. You can choose 15 players and at the moment you will have to wait for their opportunity.”
Shreyas Iyer was India’s highest run -scorer in the Champions Trophy 2025. Overall, he was the second highest run -scorer. He scored 243 runs in five matches at an average of 48.60, including two half -centuries and the best score of 79.
