Bankers in Maharashtra on Friday appealed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to provide security to him. After several incidents of attacks on employees in banks across the state, the bank union has written a letter to the CM.
The United Forum of Bank Unions wrote in the letter that Raj Thackeray’s party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers are coming to the banks and threatening the employees. The workers pressurize all the display boards of the bank to get it installed in Marathi and only to speak Marathi to the employees. The letter also mentions the attacks on them.
On April 2, MNS workers in Mumbai entered a bank and pressurized the manager to talk in Marathi. The activists accused the manager of not talking in Marathi while talking to customers. The video of this clash is going viral.
In the video, the workers are telling that if you want to work here, then you have to learn Marathi. Manager on it Said That no one can be expected to learn the local language immediately. It takes time.

He argued that local youth should be given priority in jobs in Maharashtra. These incidents caused resentment across the country and the leaders of all parties condemned the antics of MNS.
MNS has pressurized multiplex to allocate screen for Marathi films. The party has warned that if Marathi cinema is sidelined, it will have to bear the consequences.

Marathi vote bank big factor The MNS has to struggle to maintain a political hold. In the 2009 Maharashtra assembly elections, the party won 13 seats, mainly by Marathi voters.
However, its vote share declined due to the increasing influence of rival parties such as various factions of BJP and Shiv Sena in later elections.
