Goat Health Tips: The risk of infection increases during the monsoon in goats. Viral disease and enterotoximia called Orf are proving fatal in Satna. Today we will give some advice from experts.
Two main diseases: Orf and Enterotoximia
In a conversation with Local 18, veterinarian Dr. Brihaspati Bharti said that two diseases are usually seen in the goats in the rainy season, including Orf and enterotoximia. Orf is a viral disease, which spreads rapidly from infected goat to other goats. It contains the goat’s mouth and around it. If it is not stopped in time, the whole herd can be affected.
Dr. warned that due to lack of information, many cattle rearers use burnt oil on goats ulcers, which the animal licks with the tongue. This can lead to blisters and can worsen the condition. As a better option, he advised to keep the infected separate from the herd and apply turmeric and mustard oil paste on the ulcers so that even if the goat licks it, there is no internal damage.
Vaccination and caution is real treatment
He said that Orf is a self-cure disease that is cured over time, but it is necessary to use antibiotic to prevent other infections related to it. At the same time, vaccination facility is available in government animal hospitals to prevent diseases like enterotoximia, pot pox and PPR. Dr. Bharti also made it clear that pregnant goats can also be vaccinated and this can also strengthen the immunity of their fetus.
In the rain, insects and snails increase in ponds and fields, which are harmful for goats. Especially the snails hide in the grass and when the goat eats them, which causes insects in their stomach. To prevent this, it is necessary to give the medicine to kill the stomach worms from time to time.
Good in defense, preparations should be done before monsoon
Vaccination should be done 20-21 days before the arrival of monsoon as it takes time to develop immunity. Also, goats should be kept away from mud and dirty ponds so that they are healthy and the cattle rearers do not suffer financial loss. Even if the rain is a lifeline, but if caution is not taken, then it can prove to be fatal for animals. In this season, only the vigilance of cattle rearers and timely treatment of goats can ensure the safety of goats.
