An old proverb is also prevalent in our Chhattisgarh, ‘Quer Karela Karthik Mahi, not dead.’ This means that in the month of Ashwin (Quer), if the person eating bitter gourd and the person consuming buttermilk (Mahi) in Kartik month will definitely be sick. What to eat?
According to Dr. Sharma, consumption of jaggery in this month is particularly beneficial. Give priority to barley, jowar and rice in grains. Moong, moth, tur, lentils and gram dal will be suitable in pulses. In seasonal fruits, consume mousambi, annannas, rainy watermelon, white pomegranate, sitaphal and coconut. Include Parwal, Torai, Gourd, Pumpkin, Peppermint and Chaulai in the diet in vegetables. The use of black pepper, turmeric, cumin, dry coriander, sweet neem, cardamom and thin cinnamon in spices will be beneficial.
